Mark’s Story

Mark joined the family business in 2021 and is no stranger to business management. After graduating from Susquehanna University with a bachelor’s degree in finance, Mark spent 15 years in the financial industry with the last seven years having a heavy focus on Operational management. Since joining the firm, Mark has spearheaded two campaigns: improving firm processes as well as driving business growth. The same skills Mark has proven to be valuable internally he has provided to clients to help strengthen their own internal business operations.

Their Story

Meeting in 2009, Mark and Rachel would do what any accounting duo would do, they would exchange marriage vows on a tax deadline, October 15th! The duo would then spend the beginning of their marriage in the beautiful town of Irvington in Westchester, NY. They welcomed their first child a week before the tax deadline in 2020 and after moving during the 2021 tax season would find themselves among the few who are lucky enough to call the quaint and historic river town of Clinton, NJ their home. In true family fashion, their second child would arrive on the eve of the 2023 tax season deadline. Having earned their Gold Award and Eagle Scout respectively, philanthropic endeavors remain important to Rachel and Mark. Whether it’s through their community involvement through organizations like the Friendly Son’s of St. Patrick or in their church community, you will find them both volunteering their time where their talents are needed. When Mark and Rachel are not in the office, you may find them with their children looking for ducks by the Red Mill waterfall, walking to the library or enjoying a sweet treat at the “Ice Cream House” on Main Street as their son refers to it.

A Note from Rachel about The Firm’s Story

Our family business first began in the small town of Maspeth, New York. Growing up in the business, I spent my visits to the office during my childhood reorganizing the supply closet, during high school and college I would intern each tax season and throughout the year I assist my Oma with bookkeeping services. When my dad, Franz Michael Walter, opened the original business in 1994, he had two goals in mind: the first was to provide each client with results-oriented services and the second was to create a healthy work life balance so that he could be present and a memory maker for mine and my sister’s upbringings. In my opinion, he succeeded in both of his goals.

My dad was the most remarkable human being, and I was blessed to have him as both my father and mentor. He lived each day to the fullest and was an invaluable part of our family as well as our clients’ lives. When he passed away suddenly in 2018, it left a deep void in both my family and our business family. A few years after managing the family business, I realized that I missed having a partner. Through a series of events, Mark and I found ourselves presented with a unique opportunity to team up together professionally.

While some things have changed with my dad’s passing, there are many things that have not changed including our commitment to serving our clients and helping them understand their numbers story. There are big shoes that we have to fill here (both literally and figuratively) and I am proud to be continuing the family legacy with Mark, a legacy my dad began 25 years ago, through the work we do here at Walter Riebling Accounting Services.
